 Sentinel cheque for CNTN

Copiers formally handed over

SMILE PLEASE! A photographer for the Co-operative Charitable Foundation records the formal hand over. Left to right are Chris Barnett (Director, Co-operative Charitable Foundation), Frank Makison, (Vice-President of the United Co-operative Society), Patrick Grange (Chairman, CNTN), the Mayor of Crewe and Nantwich (Cllr Steve Roberts) and Ray Gladden (President, CNTN).

IN a ceremony at the CNTN studios on February 23, 2005, new copiers - for making the duplicate cassette tapes which are sent to Listeners - were formally handed over to us by representatives of the Co-operative Charitable Foundation who gave us the £10,750 to buy them.

The copiers were handed-over by Frank Makinson, the Vice-President of the United Co-operative Society, and Chris Barnett (Director, Co-operative Charitable Foundation).

The event was also attended by the Mayor of Crewe and Nantwich, Cllr Steve Roberts, and the Mayoress, Mrs June Roberts; Clive Mosby (Vice-President of Crewe Rotary Club) and Dave Fox (Editor of the Chronicle).

Our promotional video, "Hearing from Friends" was screened for the guests during a buffet lunch.

CNTN  Treasurer and Tape Manager, David Bushell, explains to the Mayor and Mayoress how the tapes are copied to be sent to our Listeners.

Sentinel cheque for CNTN

APPARENTLY star gazing, these men are, in fact, posing for a Sentinel photographer at a ceremony in which a cheque for £4,921 was presented to CNTN by representatives of The Sentinel Football Competitions, on November 22, 2005.

To get a better photographic angle on all of them, she is standing on a stool.

The money was used to update our tape production set-up to digital from the previous tape cassette system. Our Listeners will continue to receive tapes for the moment, but one day we could offer CDs instead - or as well as - tapes.

Meanwhile, the digital recording will lead to a better sound quality on the tapes and will also enable the Recorders to make a cleaner job of the original recording.

Pictured left to right are: Alan Vickers (Chairman of The Sentinel Football Competitions), Roy Plant (Referees Secretary), Simon Vickers (Schools Shield Secretary), David Banks (General Secretary), David Bushell (CNTN Treasurer) and Ray Gladden MBE (CNTN Honorary President).

The Sentinel, which covers Staffordshire and South Cheshire, sponsors the four separate competitions, which in turn use match-day receipts from the semi-finals and finals of the tournaments to support local charities.

CNTN have taken news items for the tapes from the Crewe and Nantwich editions of The Chronicle since being formed 33 years ago. We are delighted to have the support of a second local newspaper for our efforts.
