The latest newspaper on line

WHILE cassette tapes are our main medium, we are considering having an on-line edition. Rest assured that the tape version will remain available as long as it is needed - and as long as cassette tapes and the players are still made.

But for people who have a computer and would like to use that to hear the weekly newspapers, we have put a version on to the website. It will be come available as soon as possible after the recording is made, and Listeners will be given two options: download the file and hear it at their convenience or stream it - that is, listen to it as it downloads.

The first option means Listeners can save them to a file on the computer and hear the newspaper when they wish - or even a second time!

With streaming, the files are not saved.

There is only one file available in this experiment, Friday, October 8 2010, but if the idea is taken up we would have more than one week's edition available. This means than if you go on holiday you will not miss a week or two's recording(s) and can hear them when you come home.

It will also mean that there is no tape to be sent back for re-use. So you will not miss out if your tape doesn't reach us in time.

Click here to access the recording of October 8 2010

If you choose option 1 - to download the week's newspaper and save it - it will take several minutes to download the 42MB (approx) file, according to the equipment you are using. Click on the link above and when the page appears RIGHT-click on "Download the latest newspaper". Then click on "Save As" or "Save Target As", etc. Choose a computer file to save the newspaper file in. The file will download. Put the kettle for a "cuppa" and return to listen to the latest newspaper.

If you choose option 2 - to stream the newspaper - it will start to play while it continues to download.

You will need a username and password to access the recording which we obviously cannot print on this page. To find out what they are, send an e-mail to webmaster@cntn.org.uk. This applies only to Listeners of Crewe and Nantwich Talking Newspaper.
